Description

Mitts, HK cotton lace pattern with beads "Pair of mitts, hand knit white cotton worked in a lace or openwork pattern with single opening for fingers. About 11” long. Toothed edge at top. Blue and gold vine around wrist; green and blue one around top; red dagged border at bottom. The rest is a mesh with pairs of metallic gold and transparent red and blue seed beads worked along the way to form color bands; there are the odd pink and green ones, and a section where the requisite beads were unavailable... the pattern does not seem precisely followed, and the right colors of beads were not always available as the knitting progressed, suggesting these were not a product of the German cottage industry. Rare.See Mitt #98.068.2"
