Reticule, white, vandyke top Entirely hand stitched cotton reticule, rectangle with rounded bottom corners. Top edges are vandyked with blanket stitched edges; sides and bottom have folded frill effect that is really a side-bottom panel, embellished with drawn thread border edged with French knots. First side has embroidered design executed in white cotton thread in blanket, back, satin, stem, and boullion stitches, French knots: “Lydia Dole” beneath simple nosegay surrounded by stiff leafy border with small florets and a flower in each ‘corner.’ No eyelets, but the four flowers have simple needle lace fillings. The other side has more elegantly disposed flowers, leafy vines, and long leaves filling the space, incorporating eyelets and no needle lace. Little touch of a tendril in fine linen (?) thread. Single drawstring of plied cotton cord with tassle in homespun/woven linen tape casing. No evidence indicating there was a second drawstring.Collection
