Description

A carte de visite of an act of a Chinese little person. The photo, which is glued to the cardboard card shows a scene of a small Asian man standing beside a Victorian wing chair that is draped. The man has a mandarin cap, a goatee. The man wears a silk jacket with an embroidered sash over a decorated white gown. He holds a white fan in his right hand. Surrounding the man are superimposed drawn Victorian furniture, arch and column. The legend on the card says "CHE-MAH. The Chinese Dwarf." The back of the card states "CHAS. EISENMANN, PHOTOGRAPHER, 229 BOWERY NEW YORK. Portraits taken by instantaneous Process. Extra Inducements to the Theatrical Profession". The card has a handwritten phrase stating "----The Inch".
