Description

Beaded knit silk reticule, U shaped with probably 20th century crocheted top and draw cords of dark green; unlined. Same design on both sides. Dark red bottom band at bottom with two bands of simple flowers in shades of blue, green and pink. Scene showing a man in a red vest, rowing a boat between two white swans in a little inlet. On one side with a retaining wall stands a farm with many closely spaced buildings and a water wheel. On the other is a building next to a leafy tree. Typed note inside: “Following the Civil War Mrs. Cramer the mother of Mrs. Hume Shipman, cherished this hand beaded purse.” This came from the well known Barret family of Caledonia, NY
