Scope and Content

One account book kept by shoemaker Peter Kipp in Newark, Wayne County, New York. 1831. Account book records names of his many customers and the purchases they made. Some were cash sales and others were for trade. He also records cash going out for supplies, etc.

Context

Peter Kipp was born on November 22, 1794 in New York. He was a successful shoemaker for over 50 years in Newark, New York. His first wife was Harriett Conklin with whom he had at least six children. His second was Prudence Aldrich Bouker with whom he had at least three children. Peter Kipp died in Newark, New York on July 16, 1854 at the age of 65.
