Description

Sword buckle/belt plate of a Union Civil War officer, model 1851. Features and eagle with a shield on its chest and holding a laurel leaf in one hand and arrows in the other. Surrounded by laurel leaves, stars, and rays of sunshine, the eagles carries a banner "E. Pluribus Unum".

Context

Worn by officer Richard M. Dillon of LeRoy, New York. The museum also has in its collections his honorable discharge and company register.
