Description

Two young boys, one seated, while the other stands. Illustrates the evolution of children's male-gendered clothing. The older boy who stands wears his first suit - wool sack or morning coat, waistcoat, and full trousers. White turndown collar and black silk neckcloth. The seated child wears a little boy's Bolero suit with decorative braiding and buttons, made most likely out of a fine wool. These suits often had a pleated skirt for boys younger than the age of five. Very popular in the 1860s
