Elderly woman seated, resplendent in her finery. Fine wool or dark silk faille gown that as been adapted. Originally a fan-front from the late 1840s or early 1850s. The lower portion of the bodice has had its pleats sewn in place, while the top is allowed to expand as needed. Full sleeves with sleeve caps and turned up cuffs, both trimmed in black velvet bands. Small white work collar of what looks like Broderie anglaise, with a medallion brooch in the CF. She wears a necklace of beads of some sort. Hair parted and set down on sides of the face with a gentle deep wave. Hair dressed with ribbons and netting, ribbons looping at sides of head and lower portion of the ears. Dark dressings with minimal jewelry color could indicate long-established widowhood.Collection
