Description

Parasol covered with brightly colored chine printed and brocaded silk, predominantly dark celadon green and red-pink. The fringe is about 2” long, woven with fine warp threads grouped every quarter inch or so to keep the fring aligned neatly, mainly so the fringe can be printed! Lined with white silk. The handle is rusticated dark wood with tiny bone dots inlaid on the knobs. Club shaped variation of hook handle, made of bone; fancy bone ring at the top. Frame may be baleen- the tips seem to be formed of the ends of the ribs, and painted white. Brass slider, and an additional smaller one to hold it open. Tilting joint in the top.Overall length, 23.5”; frame length 9.5”"
