Description

Mostly machine-stitched little girl's day dress made of wool. The design consists of a brocade of leafy sprigs. Oxblood colored silk taffeta ruching is added down the center front, across hem at the bottom and the cuffs. Two silk taffeta ties in back. Binding of same silk taffeta at the neck opening, wrist and hem ruffles. Dropped waist hem is box pleated across the front. Knife pleats in back. Rounded coat sleeves. Wrists are filled with machined-laced lace tape. The center back opening has six buttonholes; all machined, but all buttons are missing. Hem is faced with a plain weave cotton, while the bodice is lined with a heavier weighted glazed cotton. For a fashionable little girl, emulating the styles of older women in the mid-1880s.
