Oval shell cameo depicting the Roman goddess Aurora, Goddess of the Dawn, riding her chariot pulled by two horses across the sky ahead of the sun. It is finely carved, note the draperies, the wheel of the chariot and the horses bodies. Collet set in sterling band. A gold-filled very thin wire is the only decorative element. May have been gilded--there are rough parts on the silver that will not come off. Tube hinge and older style safety clasp. Clasp may have been soldered on later. Marks on the pin stem cannot be identified. 1 1/2 " long. 11/8" wideCollection
