Description

Small carte-de-visite of an older woman, perhaps middle-aged. She is seated wearing a dress of silk in a dark colorway. Black velvet details on cuffs, and center-front plastron front panel. Bodice extends down over hips with a full skirt. Hair center-parted without hair ornament. Frill at neckline of white cotton. She wears earrings that appear to be hollow-wear. Heavy chain necklace with large locket or pendant hanging from chain. Smaller chains or rows of faux-pearl hanging from this locket or pendant and go into left-side pocket in bodice, most likely attached to a watch. Ring on ring-fingers of both hands. Below image is printed: "Richardson Newcastle Upon Tyne." On back of card is printed: "The new instantaneous process for children. Richardson artist photographer 66 New Bridge St. Newcastle upon Tyne. Photographs of all kinds enlarged to any size. Copies of this portrait may be had on application."
