Stocking

Entry/Object ID

Description

"Hand knit white cotton stockings; seem young size. Top with lacy design and a small shell design wraps around 3/4 of the leg, toe to calf. In a reserve on the toe is a beaded cartouche, roughly hexagonal (perhaps intended as a heart shape), of coarse turquoise glass beads; inside is a red capital A. Below the cuff is a rectangular border of red and turquoise beads surrounding a red “ZAD” on one side and “1874” on the other. Each beaded motif faces the wearer. Rounded toe, no under instep seam. We figure it was Zelda Anne asserting her preferred name. Expertly knit.See single matchig mitt 98.068.2 Mitt included in appraisal 08"
