Description

Entirely hand stitched waistcoat made of wool matelasse. Violet lattice or grid design formed by shaded, leafy vine; spaces filled with rough bark-like texture. Single breasted, 7 self buttons. Medium high opening with shawl collar widest at midpoint. Pointed center front bottom. 3 slightly curved welt pockets. Long dart in side fronts; shaped side seams. Self buttons. Front padding is attached by self button. Thin cotton lining and back. Strap with thin, tin plated steel buckle. Found with two small bits of quill (pens?) in pocket.
