Description

Entirely hand-stitched men's waistcoat made of thin white silk or cotton with horizontal figured bands in front, PW cotton back, and lining. Standing collar and wide lapels. Double-breasted, the top 2 buttonholes are left unopened. Collar, pocket welts, and edges banded with chartreuse silk ‘spiders’ centered with a single tarnished silver spangle. The border is edged with a chain-stitched jagged line of silver thread and pink silk thread. More ‘spiders’ are widely spaced throughout the field. Self buttons of cloth covering a bone [?] disc, trimmed to match. The back has 3 pairs of PW linen tape ties. Beneath the proper left armscye on the inside, the name “Biddle” is inked."
