Entirely hand stitched; lined with homespun/woven napped cotton flannel stitched at least in part with linen; outer fabric is red-green cotton/wool* unbalanced plaid in a weft-faced twill. It is stitched at least in part with silk; wide hood lined with bright green silk taffeta; gathered casing with green silk ribbon drawstring; red (?) velvet rolled collar bound in pink silk, as are arm slits. Big hook/chain closure at neck.*under the microscope the warp is fine, unevenly dyed cotton- white singles, tan, overdyed [?] green, dark blue, and dark brown. The fibers are flat with gentle twists. The weft is black, white, pine green, lavender-gray, and orange-red singles. The fiber seems to be a very fine wool, or possibly alpaca or (more likely) mohair because the scales are extremely fine. There are regions of horizontal scales spaced close together and some regions of more irregular looking scales spaced farther apart. In some places the fiber has a pronounced extruded twist. It is much thicker than the cotton fibers. Not sure I didn’t see silk but that may have been pieces with very fine scales. This may have been referred to simply as mohair but - not sure. Camlet was plain weave.Collection
