Description

Hand-stitched and machine chain-stitched brown velveteen knickers and jacket with flat gilt brass buttons; a brown printed pinstriped cotton shirt with milk glass pie crust buttons Knickers (a) - gathered into bands; side openings, 3 buttons at the sides of the knees, and at either end of the pocket welts at the hips. Waistband with buttonholes all around crudely executed in black silk. They have been lengthened by adding another 4” band of velveteen at the original waist level and probably a new waistband with unworthy buttonholes. Unlined. Jacket (b) - boxy shape, waist length with cut corners in front; simple, tubular, long sleeves with faux cuffs with 3 buttons. Sleeves lined with white cotton, the front body with black mohair used in men’s coats. The high round neckline closes with a domed gilt brass button. Shirt (c) - has front opening placket with self frills on either side, piped round neckline. Long. full sleeves gathered into narrow cuffs closed with glass buttons. The body gathered into a waistband with brass buttons that attach to the knickers.
