"Heavy white cotton bustle consisting of one crescent-shaped layer encircling the waist graduating from about 2” at the side front to about 5” in center back, and a layer that hugs the hips in back. The first has 3 concentric cane reinforcements, the second has short vertical pieces of cane. Both joined at the waist which ties in the front with sturdy tapes. Stamped in black ink: CHAMBERS PATENT. JULY 12, 1859.[Matthew Chambers, New York, NY, Skirt Supporter, Patent No. 24,720]"
