Description

Entirely hand-stitched man’s nightshirt made of fine linen. Very long; probably calf length. Cut from squares. Sleeves with deep cuffs. No underarm gussets and no reinforcements. Set into the body with 1/2” wide felled seam. Shallow back yoke into which the body is tightly gathered in the center. Collar has no evidence of starching and turns over with an open space in front; it is minutely topstitched, as are the placket and cuffs. Long center front opening finished with a placket with 3 (missing) buttons. Terminating in a horizontal band into which the bottom of the shirt is gathered for fullness in front. Neck has no gusset. Reinforcements in the side vents. Small unmatched pearl button at base of each cuff.
