Description

Square Paisly-type shawl having a thin black field with narrow outer border, deeper border of 7 butas per side, each facing the same direction, and four corner butas which are reversed. Appears to be a black silk warp with black wool weft in the field, but the color cast of the silk gives the appearance of being shot red/black. Twill-woven au lance with black, red, green, yellow-orange, lavender-gray and white wool in weft stripes (that blur together a little from a distance). Remains of applied wool fringe on two sides. The wefts, which are pretty scratchy, appear to be bigger and loftier than most, and to have been woven individually but in pairs somehow. The weave appears to be a variety of basket weave, all of which intensifies the weft stripe effect
