Description

Entirely hand-stitched shirt made of fine white linen. Rectangular format. Deep vents. Full sleeves gathered into armscye and deep cuffs. The collar stands with 2 pearl buttons, undoubtedly replacements. Neck, underarm and vent gussets. Rectangular shoulder reinforcement of slightly heavier linen covers the entire area between collar and armscye, to 1” below it. Inset bosom panel with one deep pleat on each side, opening inward; stayed with a strip of coarser linen at the base. Deep, fine lawn frill on each side of the opening. One button (missing) on each cuff near the wrist. The felled seam on one side, butted selvages on the other, turned outward. Magnificent topstitching on cuffs and neck gussets.
