Description

Infant’s fine linen shirt, open all the way down the front. Exquisite workmanship. Round neckline with exquisitely stitched fine gauze frill, flat on front. Opening edges very finely backstitched. Shoulder seams are fagotted and hemstitched on either side. Underarm gussets; very full sleeves, narrow cuffs with minuscule backstitching. Two holes to receive cufflinks or ribbons. Someone carefully stitched both sides of a tiny cardboard label to the bottom, with an inked inscription “Shirt worn by Isaac Basset born Oct. 6, 1779”
