Description

Entirely hand-stitched infant's shirt made of very fine linen lawn. Short and wide with a wide, straight neckline. Embroidered with linen and cotton. A meander is attached along the edges of the front and back flaps. A ‘dotted ribbon’ with a bow centered at the top along the cuffs, worked on the inside so the cuff may be reversed (over the outer garment sleeve?). 3/8” hems with very fine hemstitching which is even used along the underarm gusset seams. No side seams. Bodies joined onto a fine linen shoulder band with hemstitching, with a band on either side composed of half-drop French knots within a drawn-thread border. The sleeves are gathered with beautiful whipping onto the armscyes. They are slit at the underarm seam from midway to the hem, also hemstitched there. Casing with fine linen braid tape drawstring above the sleeve hem, which is finished with handmade lace, speculated to be Lille.
