Description

White silk taffeta slippers, hand stitched. Straights, no heels, narrow square toes. Square, low throats; side seams, none in back. Remains of silk ribbon ties behind seams. Lined with tan kid, coarse white linen and medium white cotton. 5/8” silk ribbon finely pleated across throat; white silk ribbon rosette just below. Bound with white grosgrain ribbon. Label on one inner sole reads: Boots and Shoes Particularly made for JOHN F. PRAY; No. 103 Washington Street., Corner of Williams Court Boston. Soles have ring stamps. "One sole is inked “Sept. 1831.” Inked note reads: “Frances Seaman[s] Blake Wedding Slippers 1831 Mrs. Joshua Durant Colony
