Description

Black and white photograph of William Parker Lyon- the founder of the Lyon Van and Storage Company and creator of the first Pony Express Museum. Lyon moved his museum from Canon Drive in San Marino to Arcadia in 1934. His museum of western memorabilia was an instant success and drew record crowds to Arcadia until it's closure in 1955. In this c 1930s photograph he is seen in front of a stage coach with about 30 children when the museum was in San Marino. He is seen holding his grandson (Bud Edgar) and granddaughter Sally Peck. Parker Lyons is wearing western clothing with a long coat and a hat. A wooden building and many trees are seen in the background. The number (6) is written in black ink in the lower left hand corner. The reverse has some wording written in pencil and ink- this can be seen on one of the images in P2014.48.
