Scope and Content

The F. M. Douglas House, located at 980 Willow Avenue, is a Pivotal Structure. The address is sometimes listed as 205 Sharon Avenue East or the corner of Sharon and Willow or 34 Village Square. This house was originally occupied by F.M. Douglas, but its most notable resident was Florien Giauque. Upon Mr. Giauque's death, the house was bought by the family of Harry Whiting Brown. Upon Mr. Brown's death in 1929, his family established HWB Community House as a memorial for the village he loved so much "so that all the people of the village will feel free to use it:." The Glendale Library was located in here until 1987. It also housed a community nurse office. In 2008, the Glendale Community Library was established at Harry Whiting Brown by residents of Glendale.
