Scope and Content

This house, a Contributing Structure, located at 835 Congress Avenue was originally the parsonage for the Church of the New Jerusalem. The Church was founded in 1861 and the parsonage was built two years later. Source: Comprehensive Survey Report The house was completely renovated c. 1910-1920s. In the 1840s, prior to the construction of the church and parsonage, these grounds were the site of the Swedenborgian Church camp meetings. John Chapman, "Johnny Appleseed" who was a Swedenborgian, came with other church members and camped on the property. Source 2005 Ownership Survey
