The Elliot -Clarke House, a Contributing Structure, is located at 70 Fountain Avenue East. It was built by Ezra Elliot in the early 1850s and later sold to Robert Clarke, a prominent Cincinnati publisher.
Pictures are attached of Mr. Clarke in his library which was specially constructed with double thick walls to protect his book collection. The collection contained over 6,000 volumes.
Theodore Roosevelt and Robert Howard Taft are said to have been guests in the house, as well as Walter St. John Jones, who inherited the house. Source: undated newspaper clipping (circa 1940s?) located in house folder.
After World War II, the mansard roof and second story were removed.
