Scope and Content

This house, a Contributing structure, is located at 500 Greenwood Avenue. The house, originally in Sycamore Township, was annexed to Glendale in 1956. The owner of the house in 1998 was C. Bart Hawley. According to Mr. Hawley, the house was built by a Mr. Greenwood who owned canal boats on the Miami Valley Canal. The tool shed in the back of the house was a pilot house from a canal boat. According to Mr. Hawley, the house was sold to the Lippelman family in the mid 1860s and the family lived there for several generations. Other owners were the Halloran and Clarke families.
