Description

Stuffed western screech owl (Megascops kennicotti) toy. The owl was named in honor of Robert Kennicott.

Context

This type of owl was discovered in Sitka, Alaska in the 1867 and named in honor of explorer Robert Kennicott of The Grove. "Megascops kennicotti" is commonly known as the western screech owl. These owls can be up to 10 1/2 inches tall. They live in riversides, woodlands, and open fields. Their call is: hu hu hu hu; hu-hu-hu.
