Settee with upholstered floral design in a deep rose color with a wood frame carved with fruit and leaves

Context

The sofa was purchased in the mid-1860s by Bhrendt and Karin Olsen of 215 Ohio Street, Chicago, Illinois. In 1871, the sofa was carried to Oak Street Beach and buried in the sand to save it from the Great Chicago Fire.
