Description

Net dotted Swiss evening dress - full length. Style: fitted bodice and gathered skirt with slight A-line shape; outer skirt is lace with taffeta appliquéd; under skirt and bodice is black glazed cotton. Decorative feature 1/4" white bodice is black glazed cotton. Decorative feature 1/4" white cotton cord wrapped in black glazed cotton with zigzag double string cord wrapping the cloth covered base cord. Design on bodice; black cord outlines the slight "V" neckline which accents a three loop bow center front; bib outline of square shape created by covered cording which continues to back as a sewn down flap shape 2" below shoulder line; cording continues down the back bodice in 90° angular curves to waistline; 2 flaps shapes on each shoulder (stylized epaulets). Greek maze pattern is applied by 3/8" black glazed cotton at bustline continues in same placement on back. Back close of hook and eye (11) outer lace garment; underdress has 11 hook and eyes; cotton under garment has animal bones (12) possibility of whalebone. Regular tailored dotted swiss outer sleeve; under sleeve, cotton is shorter than outer sleeve; lace sleeve extends 7" beyond cotton sleeve; below the elbow applied to dotted swiss netting is the large covered cording in a band around sleeve; applied glazed cotton Greek maze pattern (zigzag) below maze pattern additional cording at wrist 7" width satin cummerbund are two 5" width dotted swiss black net ties one has heavy cording outlining tie edge. Skirt: "A" shape; 20" below waistline is a 1-1/2" self fabric double edge ruffle which circles the skirt; greek maze design same but larger than on bodice; 6-1/2" space and third Greek maze pattern slightly larger (5" height) one inch width on both skirt maze patterns, 2 Under Skirts: one is a very fine sheet cotton attached to full length heavier weighted black cotton; sheer cotton is attached at waist and 9-1/2" above hemline of heavier cotton under slip; apparently a ruffle of sheer fabric finished the edge of sheer slip (frayed and worn). Heavier bodied under slip has a double row of 2" self ruffle of black glazed cotton; these ruffles are turned in toward the body instead of out (reverse to standards) longer underslip is weighted by 1" cotton ribbon.
