Name/Title

Lady's Cotton Print of Gray and Blue Stripes

Description

Lady's afternoon cotton print, of vertical stripes of varying shades of gray and blue; slubbed black dots similar to a sotted Swiss Peter Pan flat collar, width 2-1/2", trimmed in black lace; tailored sleeves with rolled 3/4" bias wristband of self fabric; the dress at present has a gathered skirt at waistline to the bodice, front opening 27" long; 5 buttonholes hand made in cotton underlining; 1 black hook/eye at waist. The skirt has an overskirt that is 21" in length from waistline. The overskirt has 2 applied black lace bands at waist (1-1/2" wide); all hand applied by a running stitch, first band is 4" from the waist, the second band is 15" from the waist. Behind lace insert there is a lightweight white cotton batiste. A modification consisting of a 10" band of additional material was added and does not match the vertical stripes. The underskirt is 37" in length from waistband. The hem is a 3-1/4" wide cotton sheeting sewn to dress skirt at lower hem edge. The skirt at the waistband is multi-gathered in tiny gathers. The unlined skirt has 4 panels with center back and center front seams and 2 side seams. The bodice is lined in cotton sheeting. Modified because originally, bodice was to be worn outside (2 piece dress was with peplum) now one piece attached with a running stitch. Shaped by boning - only one bone remains. Two side seams under each armseye. Front bodice darts created by cotton twill tape.
