Acme Carbon Iron

Description

Except for the wood handle and screws the iron is comprised of three cast iron components. A) Base measure 6-5/8" L x 3-1/4" H measured at its back edge. Height at center back is 3-3/4". Height at front point of smoke opening is 2-3/4". At back is a circular air valve that at its peak point extends 1" from the body of the iron. The outermost end of the knob on the latch on the upper back of the base extends 3/4" from the base. B) A triangular grate fits inside the base. The grate curves upward at the back to a height of 1-3/4". C) The triangular cover bulges upward from the sides and bears relief inscription: The Acme Carbon Iron Pat. Mar. 15, 1910. A shaped cylindrical handle 4-1/4" long is attached by two supports, one each at the front and back 2-1/2" above the cover. Two screws, one at each end attach the handle to the supports.
