White Cotton Netting Afternoon Tea Dress

Description

Afternoon tea dress, ca. 1915. Cotton netting with machine embroidered rose borders. Tiny sleeve, double collar, peplum (overskirt), off-center front close with 4 snap fasteners and 1 hook and eye. Bodice top is gathered at waistband and has machine embroidered design in horizontal roses with a row of leaves below which encircle the bodice. Multiple collars with 1" heavy cotton lace trim on all cotton edges. Peter Pan back collar and 2 small lapel collars on front bodice. Back collar separated and overlays lapel collars. The under-bodice of plain sheer netting has a V-neckline and is sleeveless. Under bodice closes at center front with 3 snaps. Waistband has 2" heavy cotton twill tape applied at a later date. Peplum attaches at hipline; is 19" long and 21" wide. Has machine embroidered rose pattern at lower edge. Peplum is outlined in 1" heavy cotton lace. Skirt has two layers of cotton netting. Both are gathered into waistband. Length of skirt is 39". Lower edge of outer skirt has 12" design of roses and leaves. Rolled hem is 1/2" wide. There is one center back seam in outer skirt. At top of hem is triangle design repeats around skirt edge. Under skirt of netting has three side seams and 2" self ruffled hem.
