Thank you letter addressed to Mrs. A. Russell Cobb Jr. on September 23, 1983 regarding her donation of a hair wreath also contains a mention of this portrait: "During your visit to the museum, you mentioned the mezzo-tint picture from Mrs. Jesse Cobb probably came from her Dakota ancestors. Could you enlighten us about her maternal side of the family and who this beautiful lady was."
