Description

Dark green steel helmet shaped in the distinctive Brodie MK I pattern. There is a screw flat head top at the center top of the helmet exterior. There is an olive green chinstrap that is attached to a black head brace with a leather liner on the interior of the helmet. The liner is attached to the interior of the helmet with two metal clips on either side. The clips are secured to the exterior of the helmet with metal rivets which are visible from the interior and exterior. There is various types of stitching along the liner and leather brace.

Context

Helmets such as these were worn throughout the Great War and offered soldiers minor protection as part of their uniforms. Named the Brodie helmet, this was one of the first helmets offered to soldiers in response to alarming injuries from artillery barrages.
