Description

The book is dark brown in colour and is rectangular in shape. The front cover has faded considerably. The front cover reads "Gage & Co's Educational Series Lem. Arithmetic, Kirckland & Scott." and then directly below the last words there is a faint symbol in black ink that has the likeness of a maps legend. Within the first age of the book the name Harold Spearman has been written in dark ink, and on the following page, his signature, which looks like H Spearman, along with the date 4/19/09. Based on family knowledge and ancestry this places the book around 1809. The back cover of the book is unadorned and only has very faint writing or ink in the center.

Context

Very old Book Alexander Gordon Spearman was the last Spearman to live on the family owned Crown land that was given to the family around 200 years ago. This book was handed down and is an old school book used by Harold Spearman, which dates it back to 1809. Harold Spearman went on to become a Veterinarian for the military in First World War. When he returned from the war in the early 1800s he held his practice where the Spearman lane exists today.
