Description

This object is a crown patent to James Cathcart. It is dated 1863. It concerns a parcel of land designated W1/2 Lot 24 Concession 7. The support is a white paper with a slightly waxy texture. The medium is a printed black ink. The fields have been filled in with a handwritten black ink rendered in cursive. There is a large seal affixed to the proper top right corner of the front. It is an irregular octagon in shape with the diagonal sides of greater length than the top/bottom and left/right sides. The seal is a blue paper pressed onto a red wax adhesive. The image on the seal is an outer circle, with writing within it, with a decorative device at center; the legible writing within the out circle reads in part "Province" at bottom and "Britannia" at top. The words "Province of Canada" appear in a larger bolded font at the top of the proper left side of the front. The title page appears on the back perpendicular to the primary text as this object was intended to be folded into a brochure form for transport and storage.
