Rectangular paper post card addressed to Miss Evyleen Stewart, Richmond, Ont. West, Canada from Sefton Stewart. The front of the card has a sepia toned black and white photograph of a three storey building flanked on either side by trees and obscured slightly on both sides by branches and leaves. there is a central tree in front of the building lacking leaves. The background appears to be flat terrain with a tree line in the distant horizon. At the top of the card in black ink is printed the title, "Birmingham, Ye Olde Golden Lion, Cannon Hill Park." The reverse of the post card has a handwritten message from Sefton Stewart (of Richmond, Ontario) to his sister Evyleen Stewart. The message reads, "Bramshott / July 10th / Dear Sister / Hope you are enjoying your holidays. Is Norma & Ivy doing their share of the dishes? Best Love to all / Sefton" The top right corner of the post card has a red and white coloured postage stamp with a portrait of King George V and marked with the postage value of 1 penny. The postage cancellation stamp has an indistinguishable location, the date and time of the cancellation stamp reads, "11:30 AM 11 July 16."Context
Personal correspondence written by Sefton Stewart to his sister Evyleen Stewart. Sefton Stewart was a member of the Canadian Expeditionary Force and served during the First World War. He was a resident of Richmond, Ontario and was killed during active service.Collection
