Studio portrait of Pte. Sefton Stewart in military uniform. Sefton is in a partially seated position holding a field cap and what is presumed to be a swagger stick across his lap. Sefton is wearing a wool jacket that has a flat collar, shoulder flashes, two breast pockets, and metallic button closures. Two collar badges (metal badges that identified military regiments) are affixed to the left and right of the collar closure. There is a leather belt over the jacket and located at Sefton's natural waist. Sefton's legs are not included in the portrait below the knee. The field cap has a cap badge or hat badge which would identify his affiliation with a specific military regiment. The reverse of the card has an inscription written in dark coloured ink that reads, "Private Sefton Stewart / killed in action." Sefton Stewart was a member of the Canadian Expeditionary force and served during the First World War from 1916-1918. Sefton was a resident of Richmond, Ontario.Context
