[Front of postcard—image of centre block from in front of the main entrance gates, which are draped with the Union Jack] (260) PEACE TOWER, PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS, OTTAWA, CANADA [Back of Postcard] [Left side in type] PEACE TOWER, PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS The Dominion Parliament at Ottawa consists of the Center Block and Peace Tower, the East Block and West Block. There are numerous other departmental buildings throughout Ottawa with the finest of them clustered on Parliament Hill. The main buildings were completed in 1865 though the Central Block and Peace Tower were reconstructed in 1916 when the old building was completely burned to the ground. The main building contains the House of Commons and the Senate Chamber. The Peace Tower has a carillon of 53 bells. The main entrance lobby is particularly interesting as is the Hall of Fame which extends from the lobby through to the Library. A magnificent view of the City from all sides can be seen from the parapet around the Peace Tower.
