Description

This is a photograph of Melville Presbyterian Church in Ashton, taken in 1910. The stone church was built in 1852 and was enlarged and renovated in 1879. The congregation became a joint charge with Appleton prior to 1890, a situation which continued until church union in 1925. From 1925 until 1940, services for the United Church were held year about in this stone church and in the brick church in Ashton which today is the Ashton United Church. This building was used as a hall for a time and then became a private residence which it remains today.
