Y.M.C.A. AND CANADIAN WAR CONTINGENT ASSOCIATION WITH THE CANADIAN FORCES. France, Oct. 10th, 1917
Dear Mother:
Rec’d [Contraction: received] your letters of Sept 5th. + 13th. containing two + five dollar [crossed out: s] bills which I was very thankful of receiving, got the one written Sept. 5th. a few days ago, also one from Clissie Sept. 15th. told how George did with the horses at the Ottawa fair, not quite as good as last year but still that was good, because there is always such strong competition there. I am sure he + Frank Tierney would enjoy themselves, had

Frank many horses down this year?
That was very sad news of Andy McCoy’s death he died very suddenly eh! Was always such a healthy man, there McCoy’s had bad luck this summer Edith also went fast. Well the exhibitions are once more over for this year, wonder what kind of weather they had for [crossed out: the] Richmond, as a rule it mostly rains, the wet weather will be setting for the fall pretty soon. Did I tell you in my other letter of getting word from Earl Dobson, he had got my address

From Clissie, is about the same as ever, but doesn’t think he will be ever fit for active service, by all accounts he must of never got any of my mail, nor Ervie either don’t know the reason, have been wonder-ing [hypenated: wondering] if any of the 207th lads have come over yet. In refer-ence [hypenated: reference] to the chocolate Irene sent I only got [crossed out: one] the one box. We are now billeted in an old brewery recently captured from Fritz, that in the basements, being protected by the ruins over head. Love To All, Sefton.
P.S. I haven’t rec’d [contraction: received] your box sent same time as letters always take them longer.Transcriber
