Aug, [abbreviation: August] 12th./17. [abbreviation:1917]
Dear Mother:
Rec’d [abbreviation: Received] your letters of July 13th + 26 both registered there being five in each. thanks very much. I got the one written on the 13th. a few days ago, but had just sent you a letter before receiving yours, also had a letter from Clystal a few days ago.
Well I was certainly pleased to hear of George passing he sure did good, + he wants to stay right at it. That is really too bad about poor Edith McCoy it must of [spelling error: have] been a awful shock to people. Clissie mentioned in her letter of Pa getting his leg hurt by Nellie, how did it happen? hope it is not bad, he will want

to be more careful than he usually is, they must be busy at the harvest now, Clissie was saying that she expected to be at home during the harvest time, she + George ought to be able to handle the harvest 'ha ha' that is if they had Eva in the mow tramping it down, they wouldn't have to pitch it very high. I was [repetition:was] near forgetting to acknowledge your parcel sent July 19th. it was very nice, I have been very lucky both in getting letters + parcels think I have got pretty near every one except when we were transferred to the 13th. got Clissies parcel containing [crossed out:the] a nice pair of white socks, you people are certainly good in sending parcels + money, the money is far handier for you + really better for me, as lately we have been billeted in some very nice

little towns where we can get chips + eggs I tell you they go good but as you may know they are a pretty high price. Heard there was a draft from the 207th. landed in France. I was glad to hear of the crops being good around home, what we see of them over here they are good, France is a splendid looking country in the summer. Excuse writing as I am half lying down receiving light from a candle.
With Love To All.
