Dear Mother,
Rec'd [abbreviation: Received] your welcome letter of Apr. [abbreviation: April] 4th. also one from Clissie of the 3rd. being glad to hear everybody was well around home. Wrote you about a week ago, always try to [indecipherable] a few lines as often as possible, expecting you people must be anxious for word from me now + again.
Well mother summer is nearing us once more, which the troops certainly prefer towards the winter, at present we are stationed back of the line for a few days rest. Had a letter from Bill Mills about a week ago. must write him today. Did tell you of getting that snap of the girls, + Merle Hutton, in one of your letters, its [crossed out: a] very nice, when first looking at it. Didn't think it was taken recently, but found

but that it was taken the year I left.
Haven't seen any of the Rich. [Richmond] boys lately, but had word from W. Brecon a short time ago. Suppose you people are enjoying nice spring weather now, it has been wet on + off for. the last few weeks, one day may be fine, while the following may be very rough. Say mother when sending a parcel, I thought it would be advisable to tell you to send a little sugar together with some kind of cocoa or [crossed out: p] any other drink. Metcalfe mostly gets some in his parcels which comes in fine when wanting the odd little lunch. In reference to money Met. [Abbreviation: Metcalfe] has been notified [crossed out: ylas] by the bank in London, I am expecting word any day, however leave is not worrying us at present.
