Somewhere In, France, Oct. 7/16. [abbreviated: October 7, 1916] Dear Mother:- Just a few lines to let you know we are all well, hoping you are all the same. We have not received any mail this last while as our mail went to some other division I think it was 2nd. The weather has been very wet lately, but I think the fall is much later here than in Canada. I suppose they will be doing up their ploughing for the fall. We haven't heard anything in particular about the exhibitions, would like to hear how George got along with the horses. Those were certainly very nice parcels that you + Clystal sent, also that five dollars which came in the right time, as there are quite a few canteens in our travels lately. The other day we passed through a town where there was a photographer (2) this being our first opportunity of getting any pictures taken, we accepted this chance. Earl & I got them taken together Ervie & Sid were not billeted near us, they are to be sent to us in a couple of weeks as we left our address, if they turn [crossed out: ed] out any good will send them. This is surely a very nice country having passed through some of the best of farming land, in the last few days of our march. We are now at at [error: at] the end or almost of journey, am writing this in a very unsteady position, as my writing will show, it is even very hard to get candles. I expect you people will see all the news of the war in the papers, will kow [spelling error: know] I guess more than us, but they [spelling error: there] are a great many of the reports untrue. (3) We often wonder how Arthur is getting along, but I think he will be all right, we have never seen Arthur Aylwin Danby would like to see him, every [crossed out: thing] day we expect him, on account of seeing so many. How is Lorne getting along I am sure they have things up to date. does Charlie be down very often wrote him not long ago. We have surely seen some of the world since we have left Canada, but you know how particular they are about any information given. Will write soon again. How is Eva getting along? With Love To All, Sefton. P.S. Today I received your letter of Sept. 16th together with the snaps, which are just fine."
