Dear Mother: Rec'd [abbreviated: received] your letter of Apr. 12th [abbreviated: April 12]. yesterday, being glad to hear that you were all well, also the box with the card in it from Norma, got the money too which I certainly $1 [.00] appreciated while it lasted. I am sure I told you of getting the other bills you sent in the different letters you mustn't of got them. There is a month's mail I missed somewhere but will very likely get it through time.
I wonder if they have received word in Rich. [abbreviated: Richmond] yet about poor Arthur I have had a great time trying to find out as much information as I could before writing anything, but am sorry to say as near as I can learn, he was wounded + never seen afterwards, I certainly feel for
(2) his family, have not seen Lionel since last of Mar. [abbreviated: March] I will write his mother giving what information I know, but rather think the poor lad was killed, or taken prisoner, which is very unlikely, because I was talking to lads who saw him wounded & that was the last they saw of him.
Have they had any word about Ervie coming home, has gone to England some time ago, when he was in the hospital with the mumps, the only thing I wish is that he does make Canada, heard his mother was claiming him out but don't know whether it is true, might only [crossed out: be] go as far as Blighty. He certainly was a good chum but every body is alike in the army when you get in it for a certain time. The weather has been very warm lately, think we'll have rain, am now outside, almost dark excuse writing.
With Love To All.
Sefton
