France,
Jan. 2nd. [abbreviated: January 2] 1918.
Dear Mother: Rec'd [abbreviated: Received] your letter of Nov. 28th [abbreviated: November 28]. containing the pound note thanks very much just arrived in splendid time, the Xmas [abbreviated: Christmas] mail has been held up for a long time, the last word I had from you was Nov. 12th, [abbreviated: November 12] so can plainly see there was a hold up some where, at any rate I hope you were getting my mail pretty regular, as I know you pueple [spelling: people] do be more anxious than I would. I also got Norma's little letter was surprised to see her writing so good.

she certainly is doing fine at school, you mentioned [crossed out: y] George having a notion of going to college well I think that would much more benefit to him no doubt. as he would have to put more attention on his work, there being more teachers he would get better explanation on. each subject.
At present there is quite a bit snow on the ground. You mentioned of having plenty of sleighing too, over here we have much more snow than last, but the weather is so changeable that the snow seldom amounts to anything, one day being quite cold, while the next is quite soft & raining. am writing this being in my bunck [spelling error: bunk] so

you will have to excuse writing. By all reports there is nothing of importance going on except weddings, had a letter from Clissie dated Dec 7th [abbreviated: December 7] hadn't had any word for a long time, she is still holding her position eh!
I haven't had word from Ervie for some time it seems that he never gets any of letters, every time he writes he be's asking why I don't write, neither have I heard of E. Dobson, hear that he & Lionel Lewis were together. Was very glad to hear of Alywin Danby being back home, am sure he would get quite a reception in Richmond. The five dollar bill is really better than a pound by a few cents. How is Mr. Pratt? am sure the war is getting his goat.
Love to All.
