[page 1 of 2] France. Jan. 10th, 1918 [abbreviated: January 10th, 1918] Dear Mother: Rec’d [abbreviated: received] your letter of Dec. [abbreviated: December] 12th’ containing the five dollars thanks very much, also Normas’ little note she can write splendid now I think, tells all her troubles with Ivy + etc. We have had a slight change in the weather recently the snow is disappearing gradually but it is just as liable to start snowing within a few hours as not, the previous snow falls have been very heavy + quite rough. It seems that there is rough weather all over this year so far. [page 2 of 2] You were mentioning in your letter of George going to College, I think if he would go to Collegiate that it would be a great benefit to him, there is a thorough explan-ation given on all subjects there. By all reports, there was quite a stir over the conscription subject, had quite a few letters all around telling who was exempted + especially those who weren’t. A great many were hard against it! while a few others were for it, I suppose those who have any relatives at the front were in favour of it, well I wouldn’t stick up for it on that account. Heard the Eadies boys had to go that is [Hillie + Herb +] quite a few others from the surrounding country. Best Love To All Sefton.
